Liberty Ross: Why Kristen Stewart Didn’t Really Ruin My Marriage
In a December 2013 cover story for ‘Vanity Fair,’ Liberty speaks for the first time about ex-husband Rupert Sanders’ cheating scandal with Kristen — but surprisingly, she says she and Rupert had lost their ‘real connection’ long before the affair.
Liberty Ross was left reeling after she heard the “horrible” news that her husband, director Rupert Sanders, had been cheating on her with Kristen Stewart. But now that Liberty is slowing moving forward with her life, she admits in a shocking new interview that the affair wasn’t really what ended her marriage. Read on for more details.
Liberty Ross: Kristen Stewart Didn’t Really Ruin My Marriage With Rupert Sanders
Liberty, 35, reveals that her bond with Rupert, 42 — who directed Kristen in the hit film, Snow White and the Huntsman — had been corrupted by celebrity and success before Kristen even entered the picture.
“I knew that I wasn’t feeling 100 percent right,” Liberty tells Vanity Fair. “I found myself on a roller coaster, like, I’m going to keep things moving, keep things going. I’m going to keep up this amazing [façade], everyone looking at me and Rupert, thinking, Oh, wow, you guys have it all…. Really, I had times when I felt very lonely, very disconnected from Rupert. We’d lost our real connection.”
The decision to give up on her marriage was not an easy one (she filed for divorce on Jan. 25) , but it was necessary: “I’m not a quitter. I’ve done everything I could to be the perfect wife and mother and really support my husband. But I didn’t have any more to give, you know?”
Even after everything Rupert put her through, Liberty has still found a way to forgive him.
“We were together for 16 years, and that in itself is really beautiful. And we’ve created two exceptional lives together,” she says.
We’re glad Liberty is in such a positive place now.
Liberty Ross Moves On After Her Husband’s Affair With Kristen Stewart
Liberty says she felt as if a part of her “died” after the affair but she is slowly recovering and moving on. “I have no words to describe what we went through. But I think, for me, something always has to completely die for there to be a rebirth,” she says. “And, for me, I feel like I’m going through a rebirth.”
“It’s very strange for me because my parents have been together for 50 years, so [divorce] is something I never, ever thought I would do,” she adds.
