New World Heavy Weight Champion John Cena tells HollywoodLife.com about the process of returning to the WWE after suffering a major injury.
The WWE‘s annual Hell In A Cell Pay-Per-View event was bigger than ever Oct. 27, with Superstar John Cena making his triumphant return to the ring after suffering a debilitating injury Aug. 18. Though his highly anticipated match against Alberto del Rio ended in victory and applause, Cena was definitely the underdog of the night, with even WWE commentators speculating that he had “reemerged too early.”
But much to the delight of the entire Cenation — and to the dismay of del Rio, who craftily targeted Cena’s weaknesses throughout the nail-biting match — Cena emerge victorious, officially securing the title of World Heavyweight Champion.
Cena visited HollywoodLife.com‘s New York City offices earlier this month to give us an update on his condition:
I had a basic elbow reconstruction, and they had to reattach my tricep. I had a great surgeon, Dr. Andrews, who’s been a long-time friend and a wonderful surgeon for me over the years.
Clearly, Cena’s legion of fans owe Dr. Andrews a big thank-you.
Randy Orton’s Double-Cross Victory
But it was Randy Orton who walked away with the highest honor of the evening, the WWE Championship, after crushing competitor Daniel Bryan. Former Superstar Shawn Michaels — whose 26-year career in the ring spanned from 1984 to 2010 — returned as a special guest referee for the epic face-off.
To be fair, Orton might not have won had it not been for the unexpected interference of Shawn, who hit Bryan with his Sweet Chin Music, knocking him out and securing the win for Orton. Who would have expected Shawn to choose Orton over Bryan, his own former student? Not I.
