‘The Counselor’ Movie Reviews: Cameron Diaz Plays A ‘Ruthless B**ch’

What do you get when you mix Ridley Scott’s direction, Cormac McCarthy’s screenplay, and Cameron simulating sex with a car? The top film critics tell us in their reviews!

Fans of Cameron Diaz, Brad Pitt and Penelope Cruz will be packing movie theaters this weekend to see their racy thriller, The Counselor (in theaters on Oct. 25). And lucky for them, several reviews praise their sexy and fun acting!

‘The Counselor’ Reviews:

In the movie, a selfish lawyer, known as The Counselor (Michael Fassbender), is forced to delve into the Mexican drug trafficking world. Along the way we meet his sweet, religious girlfriend Laura (Penelope), Westray (Brad), a womanizer, Reiner (Javier Bardem), a drug lord and Malkina (Cameron), his dangerous, sociopathic girlfriend. Malkina also has a notable sex scene — gyrating on a car!

So what’s Hollywood saying about the thriller flick? HollywoodLife.com did a sweep around the Internet to find out, and while reviews are mixed, Cameron’s raunchy and powerful character is definitely a favorite.

The Hollywood Reporter

The stars, exotic sex and creative violence will draw an audience looking for classy cheap thrills. A pretty tasty talk-and-sex scene played by Michael Fassbender and Penelope Cruz within a cocoon of white sheets gets things off to a good start.

Variety

This Cormac McCarthy-scripted potboiler turns out to be a chillingly detached, borderline-sociopathic account of how getting mixed up in a Mexican drug deal can ruin the lives of all involved. Malkina (Cameron Diaz) may look like mere arm candy, but she’s not to be underestimated. In fact, she’s actually the mastermind behind most of the mayhem in “The Counselor” — a ruthless b**ch whose veins no doubt course with liquid nitrogen.

NYTimes

Mr. Scott manages all swiftly spinning parts with impeccable control and a lucid visual style. There’s a clarity, solidity and stillness (the camera moves but doesn’t tremble) to his images that augment the narrative’s gravity and inexorable momentum. The beauty of the landscapes is about all that feels coherent in an often unrecognizable, unsettling world.

NY Daily News

With his fluttering hands and electrified hair, Bardem is fun, and Pitt delivers a wily pro’s extended cameo, though Diaz and Cruz spout some embarrassing dirty talk.
