Jay Z, 43, is getting major pressure to cancel a Christmas fashion line with Barneys department store after an African-American woman claimed that she was racially profiled at the NYC store. What’s your opinion, HollywoodLifers?
Jay Z‘s exclusive Christmas line at the high-end department store is reportedly set to make millions — but after two cases of alleged racial profiling in the store, a petition was created urging Jay Z to cancel the line. Fans also tweeted negative feedback to the rapper. So did he respond?
Jay-Z Getting Urged To Cancel Fashion Line With Barneys Because Of Alleged Racial Profiling
Jay Z has gotten complaints from residents of his childhood Brooklyn neighborhood, saying that two cases of alleged racial profiling at Barneys should be enough for him to drop his Christmas fashion line deal with the store.
“Jay Z and my son grew up together,” Effie Hardy, 74, told the New York Daily News. Effie still lives at the Bedford-Stuyvesant public housing project that Jay Z did. “That could be his family Barneys is profiling. They would’ve done the same thing to him back in the day, before he got to where he is now. He should remember that.”
Kayla Phillips, 21, is one of the people who experienced the alleged profiling firsthand. After buying a $2,500 Celine handbag on Feb. 28 at the Madison Ave. store, she was stopped by police.
“(Barneys) notified the police they had suspicion about this purchase and this particular card,” police spokesman John McCarthy told the News.
Jay Z Hasn’t Responded To Petition & Tweets Urging Him To Cancel Fashion Line At Barneys
Since Kayla, a pregnant nursing student, accused Barneys and the NYPD of racially profiling her after making an expensive purchase, a petition has been signed by 1,500 people pressuring Jay Z to reconsider his contract. Kayla has also filed a $5 million claim to sue the New York Police Department.
Numerous fans have tweeted angry messages about the situation:

Jay Z’s Christmas fashion line, which was announced Sept. 25, is under contract. He’s also set to decorate one of Barneys’ NYC Christmas windows, and has not yet spoken out about the backlash.
