At least one parent doesn’t want to take things to court. Amanda Markert revealed on Oct. 24 that she actually does NOT want to dive into a legal custody battle with DJ Pauly D over their five-month-old daughter Amabella, who Pauly just recently found out about on Oct. 22.
Instead, Amanda hopes that she and Pauly can co-parent their daughter. “I’m just hoping she can have two parents in her life that could get along together, just for the sake of her,” Amanda told TMZ in an interview.
She insisted that she isn’t seeking sole custody, and that she actually wants Pauly in Amabella’s life. So at least from her side, a harsh legal war is the last thing she wants.
But unfortunately, that may not be a decision she gets to make, because Pauly is reportedly seeking full custody. The former Jersey Shore star is allegedly worried about leaving his daughter with the father of Amanda’s five-year-old son, who was recently arrested on DUI and drug charges and currently has a warrant out for his arrest in Florida, according to TMZ.
But Amanda’s co-counselor Steve Scheffler, who was present during Amanda’s interview, reassured that her other baby daddy would not be a factor in raising Amabella:
Amanda has done everything within the court system to make sure that there would be no contact between that individual and the five-year-old. Therefore there would be no contact between that individual and Pauly D’s daughter. There’s a restraining order in place; there’s an order that basically gives Amanda sole custody of that child and prevents any type of contact between him and that child. It’s not Amanda’s fault that that individual has issues, but she has done everything that a single mother could do to make sure those children are protected from that individual.
Sounds pretty convincing! Perhaps if Pauly D takes all of that into account, he’ll dial back his pursuit of full custody and Amanda can get what she wants — peace. And that may be the best thing for Amabella.
