They may be Will and Kate’s younger siblings, but Pippa and Harry weren’t included in Prince George’s godparent selection! Do YOU think they were dissed?
Prince George‘s godparents were selected by his parents Kate Middleton and Prince William — but they didn’t include Pippa Middleton or Prince Harry in the lineup! Were you shocked that George’s aunt and uncle were not among his seven godparents?
Prince George’s Godparents Are Not Pippa Middleton Or Prince Harry
There’s no doubt that Pippa and Harry will have major roles in George’s life, but we learned on Oct. 23 that they’re not adding “godparent” titles to their list of roles.
William’s fun-loving little brother Harry, 29, might not have been the most obvious choice to be a spiritual guide to George, but he would definitely have done a great job as godfather.
HollywoodLife.com previously reported that although Pippa and Harry were popular favorites among fans, they already have titles: aunt and uncle!
Soon after George was born, Editor-in-Chief of Majesty magazine, Ingrid Seward, told People that it was unlikely that Pippa or Harry would be chosen as godparents. She said that while there are ”no hard and fast rules” when selecting the royal baby’s godparents, Pippa and Harry are already going to have a strong presence in Prince George’s life. She explained that “there is no real need” to give them the godparent titles.
Prince George’s Godparent Selection
Lots of non-royal parents choose their own siblings to be their baby’s godparents, since godparents can also take on the role of raising the baby if something were to happen to the family, but in the case of the royal family, this is not necessarily the case.
“According to the Church of England, godparents must be baptized themselves and should help children think about the ‘bigger questions’ in life such as faith and love,” reported BBC News. The royal child’s godparents would “not be expected to care for the child should anything happen to the parents.”
Before we get too bummed for Pippa and Harry, remember that they get the really cool job of being fun aunt and uncle to the adorable little Georgie!
What do YOU think, HollyMoms? Do you think that Pippa and Harry should have been George’s godparents?
