Katie Yeager and Joey Maes don’t want to call it quits — after all, they have a lot invested in their relationship, including their daughter Molli! But when they decide to take an honest look at their relationship, they’re not exactly sure that there’s something there worth saving. Will they be able to pull through another fight?
Katie and Joey fought on their trip to Salt Lake City — and Katie just doesn’t feel motivated to work on her relationship when she doesn’t think Joey is treating her right. She tells her friend that she wouldn’t be able to handle him seeing another girl, which she took to mean that they were still close. Meanwhile, Joey’s stepdad offers some great advice about de-stressing before trying to talk about their problems so that they don’t end up fighting.
“I was thinking, maybe we shouldn’t be together,” Joey told Katie. Katie pitches the concept of taking a break rather than fully breaking up — but the engaged pair can’t be thinking a break at the same time as they’re planning their married life together. Joey moved out to spend time away from Katie and stayed at his dad’s house. Katie calls him constantly and has trouble getting in touch with him, so she realizes that he is purposefully avoiding her. When she challenges him on it, he says that they’re on a break and that she shouldn’t be checking up on him.
Joey gets extremely angry when Katie calls him her “dead beat baby daddy,” and he stormed out of the house. “I know it’s kind of cliché,” Katie told her mom after Joey left. “But I thought Joey and I were going to beat the odds.” Joey doesn’t want to fight in front of Molli because though she’s still too young to understand what’s going on between her parents, he fears that one day she will and it will be like his own childhood.
On the Teen Mom 3 aftershow, Katie said that though she wasn’t surprised about her breakup, “I didn’t think he was going to end it like that. I had been with him for so long that I didn’t know how to be alone.” She worried about whether or not he would ever come back.
Matt McCann has been doing well getting sober in rehab and he is checking in more with Alex Sekella. He told Alex that he will do whatever it takes to make sure that Arabella doesn’t grow up without a dad. He is sad when Alex tells him that Arabella is taking her frist steps and babbling a few words — milestones that he missed out on. He said he is going to a halfway house to stay sober before he feels comfortable coming home. Alex insists that Matt be a part of Arabella’s life any way that he can be — even if she has to work harder to be a better example for their daughter when he’s not around.
Alex is thinking about dating again — and so she started texting a guy, David, who she said was in the picture before she was with Matt. She wants to meet up with him to introduce him to Arabella, and see how he reacts to this major part of her life. Alex arranges a mini golf date with David and some friends, and brings her little sister along to watch Arabella and scope out the new guy. David seems really understanding about Alex spending her time with her baby and gets along with the little girl really well!
On the Teen Mom 3 aftershow, Alex said that she struggles to have a serious relationship with a guy because she’s so focused on her daughter. Plus, they have to deal with the exes and Matt in a very public way.
Briana DeJesus is turning 18 years old, and she is planning to have some fun behind her mother’s back for her big day. She and her friends join Briana’s mom and sister Brittany for dinner — but they were planning a wild night out at a hotel afterward.
“It’s my first time going out since Nova was born, and I really hope my mom doesn’t question my plans,” Briana revealed to the cameras.
Brittany is a great support system for Briana, offering to help her out if she gets in a bind and is scared to call their mother.
Briana heads to the club but she quickly finds that she’s in no mood to dance to the music and that she’d rather be home with Nova. The girls were all disappointed with their first trip to the club, especially in realizing that it wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. Briana’s mom is mad that she went clubbing — but was actually happy that she didn’t enjoy the night.
On the Teen Mom 3 aftershow, Briana said she was hurt that her family didn’t trust her — and that they are always assuming that there is going to be “Nova #2.”
Mackenzie Douthit is depressed that Josh McKee is out of the picture — and she talked to her friends about how he was lying behind her back. The girls help her feel better in her “no boys” mood. Mackenzie leaves Gannon with her mom and goes camping with her friends so she can forget about Josh, but as soon as they hit the road, she started dishing on how long she has been out of contact with him. They almost get rained out of their camping trip, but they remain determined to have a good time. The conversation keeps turning to Josh, as much as Mackenzie doesn’t want to talk about him, and she tells her friends that she will wait for Josh to call her before she tries to see him again.
When Mackenzie gets home from camping, she gets a text from Josh. Excited that he might want to see her, she is heartbroken to see that he only wants her to come pick up her saddle. Mackenzie goes over to his place anyway — and he’s not there to meet her.
On the Teen Mom 3 aftershow, Mackenzie revealed that in the six days that she wasn’t talking to Josh, she was actually talking to another guy! She was hiding the other guy from Josh, and she said his message was a final dig at her. She said that she didn’t necessarily want to be with the other guy, but she liked the attention and that Josh was actually getting jealous.
What do YOU think, HollyMoms? Do you think Katie is better off without Joey?
