Fans got weak in the knees when Britney Spears nominated James to play the steamy lead role of Christian in ‘Fifty Shades of Grey,’ but is it just a farfetched fantasy? A source gave HollywoodLife.com the EXCLUSIVE details.
When Britney Spears suggested on London’s KISSFM that James Franco should replace Charlie Hunnam as Christian Grey in the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey film, word spread fast, with fans’ minds filling with images of James steaming up the book’s famed “red room of pain.” But a source tells HollywoodLife.com exclusively that the diehards might not want to get their hopes up.
Could James Franco Really Play Christian Grey?
Although James’ handsome face, killer acting chops and great bod would definitely work wonders for the role of Christian, James, 35, isn’t exactly interested in joining the Fifty Shades franchise.
“James really wants to take risks in his career and doesn’t think that Fifty Shades would be one of those risks,” the source reveals. “If and when he is given the chance to do the film he will say ‘no.’ It just isn’t what he is interested in doing with his career right now. He doesn’t find anything rewarding with it.”
What a bummer!
The Quest For Christian Grey Continues
Well, it looks like the search must go on!
Among top Christian contenders are Ian Somerhalder, 34 and Matt Bomer, 36. Also, Fifty Shades author E.L. James was rooting for Robert Pattinson to bring her hero to life, but HollywoodLife.com quickly found out EXCLUSIVELY that Rob, like James, would also turn down the part if it was offered to him.
“Rob is not going to change his mind for doing the film, he doesn’t want to commit to multiple films and another franchise,” the source said. ”He wants his career to go in a completely different route. Add that to the fact that he is not the number one pick from the producers, it’s just not happening.”
With the movie’s release date set for August 2014, it’s definitely time for the production team to find their Christian.
What do you think, HollywoodLifers? Who should play Christan Grey?
