After Charlie Hunnam dropped out of ’50 Shades of Grey,’ Rob fans rallied, hoping the ‘Twilight’ actor would be cast as the new Christian Grey. Little did they know, Rob is not even in the running for the role, according to a new report.
Sorry, Robsessed fans. Even though author E.L. James once said Robert Pattinson was her first choice to play Christian Grey, it looks like it just wasn’t meant to be. Rob has reportedly been telling friends that he’s not being considered for the part — but perhaps the most surprising news is that he might have actually accepted the role, had it been offered to him. Read on for more details!
Robert Pattinson Playing Christian Grey? — Why He Won’t Be Cast In ’50 Shades’
Considering how much Rob, 27, seems to hate all the attention he’s gotten from the Twilight films, we weren’t really sure if he would be interested in starring in the highly anticipated film version of Fifty Shades of Grey. But apparently he wasn’t against it, according to a new report from E! News.
“Of course it would have been something he wouldn’t mind doing, but he was never gunning for the role in the first place,” a source tells the site.
Unfortunately, it seems there were other obstacles. Charlie Hunnam, 33, who backed out of Fifty Shades on Oct. 12, was reportedly going to be paid a mere $125,000 to play Christian — peanuts compared to Rob’s usual paycheck.
“Rob was never going to take a significant pay cut to play the role,” the source says.
Plus, Rob’s schedule is already packed — he’s currently prepping for Mission: Blacklist, among several other projects.
Well, if this report is true, it looks like we’re back to square one.
Christian Grey: Who Should Take On The Role?
As much as we wanted Rob to play Christian Grey, we have a few back-up contenders who we think could be just as great!
Matt Bomer and Ian Somerhalder are both frontrunners for the sexy role, and Matt’s fans appear to be leading the race on Twitter. The Suits star has always been in talks for the part, and after Charlie was chosen, 40,000 fans signed a petition for the studios to cast Matt instead.
When Matt heard about the petition, he said, “I’m so grateful for the fans and touched. I’m looking forward to seeing the movie with Charlie and Dakota.”
Well, now that Charlie’s out of the picture, it looks like Matt’s fans have another chance at happiness. We hope they cast our new Christian soon — the suspense is killing us!
So, what do you think, HollywoodLifers? Are you disappointed that Rob reportedly won’t be cast as Christian Grey? Who do you think should play Christian? Let us know!
