After Adrian’s two-year-old son tragically passed away on Oct. 11, over 125 people from his hometown held an emotional vigil in which they remembered the boy who was full of life, and who lit up every room he was in.
The town of Sioux Falls, South Dakota is reeling after Adrian Peterson’s son, who lived there, died on Oct. 11 after being brutally assaulted. Just hours after the toddler gave his last breath, some of the people who knew him best gathered at a town park to honor and remember him during a heart-wrenching vigil.
Town Holds Touching Vigil For Adrian Peterson’s Son
“I can’t believe this is happening,” Jennifer Miklos, who watched the boy who she called Ty in a day care, told the Argus Leader.
Jennifer was one of the many people — some who knew Ty and some who just wanted to pay their respects — who gathered at Sertoma Park in Sioux Falls. Many brought candles to the emotional vigil.
Steve Young, a Baptist pastor, led the group in honoring the little boy. “There are always big questions when a child dies. But we’re just going to trust the Scripture that little Ty is in the arms of Jesus,” the pastor said. “These are the times that remind us that we need to love each other more… and that we need to pull together.”
Adrian Peterson’s Son: So Full Of Life & Potential
Many others spoke as well, describing Adrian’s child as a spunky toddler who was always active and full of life. “His big brown eyes would make a person melt,” one attendee told the Argus Leader.
“He was very happy, very strong-willed, so much potential, a go-getter boy,” Vanja Srdic said. “Mom was his world.”
And though this horrible tragedy has gained national attention because of Adrian’s fame, town resident Preston Nankivel stated that A.P.’s acclaim has nothing to do with the strong support that is being shown. “Even though Adrian Peterson is the father, this isn’t about a famous person,” he said. “This is about a father losing a son, a mother losing a son. It’s about the child. We’re here for her and the loss of her son.”
The death of Adrian’s son is so devastating, but the outpouring of support — on Twitter and in vigils like this one — show that the family doesn’t have to face this tragedy alone.
Our thoughts are also with Adrian and his family during this difficult time.
