Olivia discovered that sometimes ‘handling’ a situation comes at a price.
Just when Olivia (Kerry Washington) thought she’d finally gotten her dad off her back, he came back in a big way on the Oct. 10 episode of Scandal. Not only did he barge into her office and introduce himself to every member of her team — they were surprised he seemed “normal,” so they clearly know nothing — but he also held the key to releasing Jake (Scott Foley). And he wasn’t about to give in without a fight.
In a nutshell, if Olivia wanted Jake back, she’d have to let Janine — the White House aide who was accused of sleeping with Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) — publicly admit to what she didn’t do. Liv tried to do the honorable thing and get Janine to stand her ground, but in typical Scandal fashion, a monkey wrench was thrown into Liv’s plan.
Fitz held this particular monkey wrench, going on live TV and confirming that he had Janine “six ways to Sunday all over this White House.” Sally Langston (Kate Burton) loved that word choice.
The episode ended with Jake appearing at Olivia’s front door, battered and bloody — though still totally handsome.
My Dad, The Monster
Back to Olivia’s dad for a sec: We learned through a series of flashbacks that he’s not only working for B-613 — the organization that made Huck’s (Guillermo Diaz) life a living hell — but he runs the damn thing. Huck was especially unhappy to learn this, confronting Olivia in the parking lot and literally throwing her against a car.
Am I the only one who thinks Huck is too much of a loose cannon to keep around?!
Of course, her dad is the real monster here. The flashbacks also revealed that he planned an attack on Edison (Norm Lewis) back when he was engaged to Liv, just to get her to break things off. And now that she’s agreed to have Sunday dinners with him again — that’s why he agreed to let Jake go — he’s never going to be out of her life!
