It’s official! The royal family has moved into their fancy new digs. The young family has settled into their Kensington Palace apartment, which was renovated just for them. With air conditioning, internet access, and environmentally-friendly electronics, the new apartment is no Downton Abbey!
Prince William and Kate Middleton moved into their Kensington Palace apartment with their 10-week-old son Prince George — and the couple made sure to combine the building’s historical charms with beautiful modern luxuries. The residence was originally built in the early 1600s, but the modern couple’s design aesthetic and personal touches have really influenced the home’s new look!
Prince William & Kate Middleton Move Into Kensington Palace Home
The royal family is finally home! Their humble palace abode is simply called Apartment 1-A.
The centuries-old Kensington Palace residences were originally designed for King William and Queen Mary in the 1600s, but it has gone through many renovations and modern updates to accommodate the royal family over the years.
Will and Kate’s own space was redesigned for its previous tenant, Princess Margaret, in the 1960s. After going through an entire year’s worth of renovations, the couple decorated with a combination of “furniture, paintings and ornaments from the Royal Collection,” and “a modern kitchen and an environmentally-friendly heating and hot water system,” reported The Express.
Modern Touches For The Royal Family’s New Home
There’s a “wonderful, bright feel to the place,” an insider who visited the apartment told E! News. “The entrance hall is beautiful with intricate cornicing and huge black and white flagstones. There are large open fireplaces in all the main entertaining rooms and lovely big windows overlooking the garden.”
In fact, “it doesn’t feel like a palace, more just a lovely townhouse, but there will be plenty of room for Prince George to run around,” the source elaborated.
“The rooms are vast and the garden is wonderful for a little boy,” the source said.
What do YOU think, HollyMoms? Do you think the royals’ apartment sounds really cool?
