Richard’s final episode of the NBC procedural — as a regular, at least — will air Oct. 16.
After playing John Munch for 20 years — first on Homicide: Life on the Street from 1993 to 1999, then on Law & Order: SVU — Richard Belzer is finally handing in his papers. Literally. SVU‘s Oct. 9 episode ended with the fan-favorite character informing Captain Dan Florek (Donald Cragen) that he intended to retire.
But does that mean we’ll never see Munch after he formally retires on the Oct. 16 episode, “Wonderland Story”?
Richard Belzer’s Future On ‘Law & Order: SVU’
Richard may not be saving New York City’s downtrodden on a weekly basis anymore, but don’t expect to see him disappear from your TV entirely. Much will (likely) walk the streets again!
A source tells The Huffington Post that Richard is “expected to make recurring appearances” on future episodes of SVU.
“I’d be a fool to say I didn’t want to do it anymore and I’m certainly not bored with the character because the writing is so good,” Richard told the site in May 2013. “[That character is] very close to how I would be if I were in that situation, so it’s a dream.”
