The ‘Duck Dynasty’ stars revealed that they could barely pay for the adoption fees when they went to adopt their son, Will, but they felt so strongly about needing to bring him into their family that they made it happen!
Willie and Korie Robertson were honored at the the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute Angels in Adoption Gala in Washington D.C. on Oct. 9. The pair adopted their son, Will, when he was 5 weeks old — and the couple got really emotional about how adopting him was the most amazing, life-changing decision that they ever made.
‘Duck Dynasty’s’ Willie Robertson & Wife Korie Open Up About Adoption
When Willie, 41, and Korie tried to adopt, they found out that they couldn’t afford the adoption fees. “We said, ‘We’re good for it – we’ll come back,’ ” Willie said at the gala before updating, “We’ve paid it, by the way.”
The couple scraped up the money to make the adoption happen, because it meant the world to them. “From the moment we found out about him, he was ours,” Korie told the audience at the gala. “I swear, I had labor pains the night before I went and picked him up at the foster home he was living at. He’s our child, just like our biological children.”
“There shouldn’t be kids without homes. It just shouldn’t happen,” Korie told People.
The couple’s kids are: John Luke, Sadie Carroway, Bella, Willie “Lil Will” Alexander, and their foster daughter Rebecca.
Willie Roberston Puts Family First
The family has become a bit of an overnight sensation with the success of their show, but the family remains down-to-earth when it comes to their kids.
“I’ve done a lot of cool things in the past couple of years, I’ve been to Super Bowls, I’ve met Presidents – but the best decision we ever made – that made the biggest impact on our life was the adoption of our son Will,” Willie said.
