So tragic! A 2-year-old toddler died from her injuries after she tipped a front-heavy television set onto her head. The 50 pound TV was rested on a lightweight wicker chest which could not support the weight.
Annette Estrada, 2, from San Diego, Cali., died on Oct. 7 after she sat under a non-stabilized television set that toppled down on her and crushed her head. Her family discovered her immediately after the TV set crashed down and raced her to the hospital, but the girl died there about an hour later.
Girl Crushed By TV — Toddler Dies From Falling Television
According to Annette’s family, “the toddler had just gotten out of the bath and was sent alone to get some clothing out of the wicker chest. At that moment, other people in the home heard a devastating crash,” reported NBC San Diego.
Family members rushed to the room and “discovered the infant’s head had been crushed by the TV set, which had fallen on top of her,” reported NBC.
The toddler was rendered unconscious by the hit and was taken to UCSD Medical Center. She died there from her injuries about an hour later.
Police Investigate 2-Year-Old’s Death
“Authorities have launched an investigation into potential child abuse and neglect in the home, but said the incident appears to be a complete accident,” reported NBC.
“Unfortunately it was the perfect storm,” said Lt. Mark Bennet of the San Diego Police Department. “This was a large, old-style C.R.T. television set, so they are very front heavy by themselves.”
Annette’s aunt hopes her niece’s tragic story makes families more diligent in their safety precautions. “Make sure you have everything safe for your kids. You don’t know when they could be taken away,” she told NBC.
Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.
