The ‘Teen Mom’ star’s brother Shawn could not be prouder of his sister — Amber is being released from prison 4 years early for her great progress. Shawn explained that she ‘did so well’ in getting her life back on track, and he’s hopeful that she will be able to regain some custody of her 4-year-old after her release.

Amber Portwood is scheduled to be released from Indiana’s Rockville Correctional Facility on Nov. 6 — and her brother Shawn Portwood is so proud of the success she has had in getting herself clean and sober. Not only has she turned her own life around, she helped other young people get sober while in prison.

Amber Portwood Jail — ‘Teen Mom’ Has ‘Grown Up & Matured’ In Prison

Amber, 23, has really turned her life around during her prison term, according to her brother Shawn.

“She’s really grown and matured — she completed her drug rehab [in prison]. she got her G.E.D., she completed parenting classes, and she became the administrator of the CLIFF program, which helps inmates get sober,” Shawn told OK! magazine.

“She did so well in cleaning herself up, that she spent most of her jail time helping other girls get clean,” he explained.

Amber was sentenced to 5 years behind bars after choosing not to complete a drug rehab program following her charges of drug possession and parole violations in December 2011. Upon her release, her brother says she is hoping to get back to a normal, quiet life.

“She’s not interested at all in the limelight,” Shawn said. “She wants none of that life anymore. She’s grown up far more than I thought she would. When I talk to her, she’s changed.

Amber Portwood Trying To Get Custody Of Daughter

After Amber’s release, her next strep is going to be trying to regain custody of her 4-year-old daughter Leah.

“She’ll be on parole for at least a couple years. Then she hopes to regain at least partial custody of Leah,” said Shawn.

Leah’s dad Gary Shirley currently has custody of their girl, and Shawn said that Amber only saw her “a few times,” during her year in prison. “The reunion is going to be huge,” he said.

Shawn previously tweeted the news of his sister’s early release along with his encouraging words:

What do YOU think, HollyMoms? Are you shocked that Amber changed so much?

Everyone “seems” like theyve changed after a prison term but the true tests are choice and freedom and what you do with them. Duh!

Amber does not deserve custody of her child just like that. It should not have taken her Going to prison to want to now be a Mother to her Own daughter and not only that her daughter has a personality and who says she wants to Now live with Her

I am happy for her she has really changed her life around. Hope that she keeps up the good work when out of prison. I know shes excited to get out and see her little girl again. Just hope she doesnt let gary control her anymore and that they dont get back together. They are probably better off coparenting. I hope he lets her see Leah. Good Job Amber!
