It’s the girls’ first Father’s Day with their babies — and whether the dads are near or far away, or just emotionally distant, they’re all on the moms’ minds. Find out what happened on the Oct. 7 episode, when the moms decide to break away from their stagnant relationships.
Alex Sekella gets a gut-wrenching telephone call that her ex Matt McCann overdosed on drugs. She is absolutely exhausted in the aftermath of dealing with him — and her family convinces her that she just needs a break away from her adult life to stop and enjoy the fun moments of her senior year of high school, like prom. But how will the single mother fare on her first reveal back at school since having her baby?
Alex Sekella Goes To Prom
Alex and Matt have gone through their issues separately — and Alex still doesn’t want anything to do with him. Her mom is concerned with how Arabella will grow up with her parents in such a dysfunctional relationship — plus almost certainly without child support from her dad — but Alex says she wants to show her daughter that this is the effects of using drugs and alcohol.
Alex’s family convinces her that she still needs to experience her senior year of high school. They want her to go to prom, get dressed up and have a good time, but Alex gets very emotional about how nobody at prom will appreciate her. She cries that Matt ruined her life — but her brother reminds her that the good thing that came out of her relationship with Matt was Arabella — who is looking more and more like Matt by the day. Even though Alex doesn’t think she can really afford to take a break from all of her work, her mom takes her prom dress shopping, and she has a blast trying on fun dresses until she finds her match. When she sees herself in a red-hot gown, she finally can picture herself having fun at prom.
For Father’s Day, Matt is in rehab, but he calls Alex to explain his disease. She is happy to hear from him, and hopes he gets better — but also understands that the only person who is able to change that is Matt.
Alex gets set up with a date for prom from the dance studio she works at. She is worried about making her big reveal back at school — because most people hadn’t seen her since she was pregnant. Her date, Nick, really steps it up in terms of presentation for prom night — but Alex thought he was clingy and boring.
On the Teen Mom 3 aftershow, Alex admitted that she fears one day having to tell her daughter why she doesn’t have a father. She said that she didn’t think Matt’s overdose was an accident, but a cry for help. She hates the way Matt treats them because she doesn’t feel she or Arabella deserve how he acts. She also admitted she was initially scared to go to prom because she didn’t want to be known as “the girl who had that crackhead’s baby.”
Briana DeJesus Starts College
Briana DeJesus decided to move on with her life after her court order against Devoin Austin was dismissed. She wants to go to college — for both her and her daughter Nova. Her sister Brittany even volunteers to go to school nearby so that she can help out with Nova and babysit while Briana goes to class. Brittany even helps Briana with her college school supply shopping. The whole family is impressed with her sacrifice and how dedicated she is to her niece. Briana registers for classes at community college — and she takes driving lessons to try to get her license too! She is taking baby steps to be more independent from her mom and sister. It turns out that Briana is far from a natural at driving — and she needs a lot of practice before it would be safe for her to drive with Nova in the car.
For Father’s Day, Briana takes Nova on her first beach trip. She avoids Devoin entirely — and notices that his attitude problems have made him miss out on a lot of Nova’s milestones.
On Briana’s first day of school, the whole family drives her to class. Brittany finally snaps — she can’t take how her mom treats Briana like a baby. She wants her little sister to step up and act like the mother she is. “I’m tired of having to deal with everyone else’s problems,” Brittany told everyone. She says she wants to move far away to “flap her wings and fly,” because she’s outgrowing taking care of her whole family.
On the Teen Mom 3 aftershow, Briana admitted how important her sister is in her daughter’s life, saying that it’s unfair that she wasn’t ready for a baby and had to step up to help her with her life choices.
Mackenzie Douthit Spends Father’s Day Without Josh McKee
Mackenzie Douthit is trying to enjoy summer break with Josh McKee — but she sees him growing more and more distant. For Father’s Day, Mackenzie does a photo shoot with Gannon all dressed up in a cowboy outfit — “mini-Josh!” — to make something special for Josh. She makes him an adorable portrait of Gannon — but when she gets to her family’s Father’s Day party, Josh isn’t there — or answering his phone. When he finally answers the phone, he barely expresses interest in spending the holiday with his son.
Instead, Mackenzie spends Father’s Day with her own dad, who actually has some sound advice for her. Mackenzie says that she has never seen her parents fight or be on the verge of a split — which is her norm with Josh — but she still knows she wants to be with him the same way her parents have wanted to be together. When she finally meets up with Josh, she doesn’t know if he’s worth the time investment of being engaged.
On the Teen Mom 3 aftershow, Mackenzie explained that she became closer to her own parents after becoming one herself because now she understands that bond.
Katie Yeager Tries To Open Up To Joey Maes
Katie Yeager is still upset that Joey Maes doesn’t support her dreams of going to school. Joey is late to pick up Katie and Molli for a swim class. Katie tries to walk there and is late, missing the class entirely. Katie’s friend has a husband who also works in the coal mines like Joey and tells her that to make her relationship more successful, she needs to be more understanding of Joey. Her attempts to “understand” him only make Joey more irritable. Katie tries to make sure that Joey is getting enough rest and sleep when he’s off of work, but he spends his time off going fishing. Katie says that she doesn’t belong anywhere but with Joey, a sad revelation that doesn’t sit well with her own mother.
On the Teen Mom 3 aftershow, Katie shares that it means the world to her when fans tell her that she deserves better than how Joey speaks to her, because she can really believe in what they’re saying.
What do YOU think, HollyMoms? Do you think the moms did a good job without their guys on Father’s Day?
