Miley’s ‘Saturday Night Live’ performance is one for the books already, with a hilarious opening skit, reliving her controversy at the VMAs. Then, naturally, her opening monologue was interrupted by cast member Bobby Moynihan — by swinging naked on a wrecking ball!
Will Miley Cyrus be responsible for the end of life in America as we know it? Yes, according to the opening sketch on SNL. Though it may not have been as racy as her sex tape skit later in the show, the “Shutdown” of the American government played a part — BUT it was Miley’s raunchy twerking performance at the VMAs that really wrought destruction to the U.S. and also brought an end for good to something almost as calamitous — Miley’s alter ego — Hannah Montana! That was one of the most hilarious moments in Miley’s brilliant hosting gig. What did you think of Miley’s performance as SNL’s host and musical guest? Read on for all the memorable highlights.
Miley Cyrus: ‘Saturday Night Live’ Host 2013 — Raunchy VMA Performance Opening Skit
Miley was the star of SNL’s opening skit, which was set in the future when America as we know it, no longer existed. SNL cast member Kenan Thompson reminisced about the events which brought on doom for America and pointed to Miley’s scandalous VMA performance as the trigger for the following destruction.
Flashback to the fateful night of the 2013 VMAs, in Miley’s dressing room where cast member Vanessa Bayer reprised her role as Hannah Montana, trying to warn her about the dangers of what she was doing that night. Do you have to wear that almost bare unitard? she wondered. Miley replied, “Eh — this performance is less about the singing!”
Cast member Taran Killam sauntered in as Robin Thicke in his black and white striped suit and was asked his thoughts on the performance. He admitted he was going to “half sing.” When asked about the scandal factor, he said, “My wife’s cool with it — I assume.”
Then, cast member Bobby Moynihan came in, dressed as one of the large teddy bears onstage during the performance and cried, “We shouldn’t be doing this!”
Cast member Jay Pharoah also showed up as Will Smith, and said his children would never be shocked by her performance, referencing the photo that surfaced of his family’s shocked faces, watching Miley perform.
Miley declared, “I’m only 20 years old, I need the freedom to grow up and make mistakes!” Finally, Vanessa and Miley launched into a duet of her old song, “I Miss You,” reminiscing about Miley’s old life as Hannah Montana.
Miley Cyrus’ ‘Saturday Night Live’ Opening Monologue — ‘No Twerking’
Miley was actually dressed in her opening monologue — wearing more clothes than we’ve seen on her in awhile! She was clad in a crop-top houndstooth jacket with long sleeves and a matching skirt.
She immediately previewed what to expect during the show.
“No twerking! Now only white people do that lately, it seems.”
She also flashed us back with a photo of picture of herself gyrating with the now-infamous foam finger at the VMAs.
“I heard from angry mothers, turned on fathers — and the inventor of the foam finger. But I gave him tickets for tonight. ” Then, the camera cut to a man in the audience waving her foam finger!
She said she wouldn’t be impersonating Hannah Montana, either. Miley said she was murdered! She also said to forget about “Wrecking Ball” parodies — and then Bobby Moynihan appeared, swinging naked on a wrecking ball, and said, “What?! Come on!”
She was hilarious in her other skits, too, making SNL history as a super sexed-up Republican Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, singing “We Did Stop,” to the tune of “We Can’t Stop,” in a music video about the government shutdown! Rolling around on the ground in teensy shorts and a tight jacket, tongue out, she partnered with ‘John Boehner’ in a tight white cropped T shirt and white undies.
Miley/Michele and John defiantly sang, ” It’s our House, we can do what we want to,” and “It’s our party we can stop what we want, defund what we want, shut down what we want,” and “If you’re not ready for healthcare, can I get a hell no!” Taran also showed a sign that said, “Out of twerk!”
Miley also impersonated a ‘hot’ Hillary Clinton in another skit — and ripped off her blazer to reveal a bra that had “2016” printed on it!
We loved the episode and thought Miley did a fantastic job, start to finish!
