The ‘Teen Mom’ star went under the knife again — but this time, she was undoing a procedure that she had done one year ago. Farrah had her chin implant removed — and her doctor told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVE details about what caused Farrah to reverse her surgery.
Farrah Abraham underwent a 15-minute procedure to have her chin implant removed on Sept. 30. Her plastic surgeon revealed that in addition to feeling self-conscious about seeing her new chin on TV and in the media, she also experienced pressure from her parents! “Close family members like mom and dad were telling her that she looked fine before,” Dr. Michael Salzhauer of Bal Harbour Plastic Surgery in Miami, who performed the procedure, told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY.
Farrah Abraham Chin Implant — ‘Teen Mom’ Star Reverses Plastic Surgery
Farrah, 22, has bared all — physically and emotionally — but she was feeling self-conscious about her body? “Once people know you have a chin implant, it draws attention and people are always looking at you a little differently,” Dr. Salzhauer told HollywoodLife.com. “Like, breast implants? No big deal. It had all gotten to her over the course of the year.”
Dr. Salzhauer performed Farrah’s original chin implant surgery. He told us:
She came to me — before she had a kind of weak chin and a little round, especially relative to her nose and the proportions of her face. She’s in front of the cameras all the time. It was my opinion — and hers too — that she would benefit from an implant. Right after surgery, she was in the media a lot and it was still quite swollen. Pictures were taken literally the day after surgery where it was at its most swollen. Immediately people thought it was too big — and it made her really self-conscious about it. Usually people do their plastic surgery in a little bit more private way.
We had been emailing back and forth for a couple months, and she said that she was loving the nose and new profile, but she wanted to do something about the chin and I told her we used the smallest possible implant and we should just take it out.
She also got “a lot of attention [about her chin] from her family members, which finally kicked her over the edge.” Dr. Salzhauer explained that if it were just people online commenting, she wouldn’t have done anything, but when it was close family members not feeling her new look, it was a different story. Though Farrah’s decision to remove her chin implant was ultimately her own, Dr. Salzhauer guessed that her family’s input had something to do with her procedure:
The problem with all kinds of plastic surgery is that even close family members don’t walk around with a before picture of you in their pocket. They don’t show your old profile, your old nose and compare it to the current you. So in their mind, sometimes they remember it a little differently. I try to prepare patients for that — and have them keep before pictures around and handy, so when your grandma says “oh you looked beautiful, you didn’t need to change a thing!” you can whip out a picture and show her, “look, look how my nose had a hook! It’s your nose, granny!”
We had a brief conversation of who was giving her pressure — whether it was her mom or whatnot, and I’m using my judgement based on my experience to guess the reasons, but it seems pretty clear.
Farrah flew to Miami for the procedure and returned home on the same day. Dr. Salzhauer said:
The good thing about chin implants is that they are reversible. It’s easy to pop them out, and you’re back to your old look, more or less. Just a half centimeter or so ‘micro boost’ from the scar tissue that grew around the implant.”
Her chin will never look 100% the way it did before the surgery, but her doctor says that little scar boost will look better than her original chin, though not as strong as with the implant.
Farrah Abraham’s Plastic Surgery History
Farrah has been very open about her surgical procedures. In addition to her chin implant, Farrah also previously underwent two breast augmentation surgeries and a nose job. “I’m very happy about my boobies,” Farrah told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY just days after her second surgery in June 2013, that brought her cup size up to a full D.
What do YOU think, HollyMoms? Are you shocked that Farrah got her chin implant removed?
