Miley Cyrus‘ split from ex-fiancé Liam Hemsworth has always been sad, but we’re even more bummed out after listening to the song “Adore You,” off Miley’s upcoming album Bangerz. The track, clearly written about Liam before the couple decided to call it quits, spells out Miley’s love for him — as well as her fear that he might not love her back the same way.
“When you say you love me, know I love you more; and when you say you need me, know I need you more,” Miley croons on the song, which was briefly available for streaming Sept. 30 on iTunes. Clearly, her feelings for Liam were real — and the lyrics only get more intense from there.
Miley didn’t just sing about loving Liam; she actually addresses their engagement, saying they “were meant to be an only matrimony,” and that “God knew exactly what He was doing” when he put them together.
Despite being so young, Miley seemed confident that she and Liam would get married and live happily ever after. It only makes their split even more tragic.
Baby, baby, are you listening
Wondering where you’ve been all my life
I just started living
Oh baby, are you listeningWhen you say you love me,
Know I love you more
And when you say you need me,
Know I need you more
Boy I adore you
I adore youBaby can you hear me
When I’m crying out for you
I’m scared oh so scared
But when you’re near me
I feel like I’m standing with an army
I am armed with weaponsWhen you say you love me,
Know I love you more
And when you say you need me,
Know I need you more
Boy I adore you
I adore youI love lying next to you
I could do this for eternity, you and me
We’re meant to be in holy matrimony
God knew exactly what he was doing
When he led me to youWhen you say you love me,
Know I love you more
And when you say you need me,
Know I need you more
Boy I adore you
I adore youWhen you say you love me,
Know I love you more
And when you say you need me,
Know I need you more
Boy I adore you
I adore you
