East Garden City, Long Island area schools have been placed under lockdown on Sept. 25 after a shooting broke out near the popular Roosevelt Field Mall. As the shooter remains at large, teachers are working to keep students focused on their schoolwork.
HollywoodLife.com reached out to Dr. Robert Feirsen, Superintendent of Garden City public schools for comment on what’s going on in Long Island schools. His assistant, Cindy Morris, told us EXCLUSIVELY:
We are keeping the students in lockout, which means nobody can come in and out of the building. They are going on about their day, we are keeping business as usual for them to stay distracted.
We are awaiting further comment from Dr. Feirsen.
For the safety of Garden City area students, “we are holding all the students in the buildings at this time. We are in lockout in all public schools in Garden City,” Dr. Feirsen said in a statement.
Area elementary schools are affected by this lockdown. The lockdown at Nassau Community College has been lifted.
The police revealed that there is no reason to believe the suspect is looking for other people to shoot –ruling out this incident as a random shooting spree — but he is believed to still be armed.
