The heroes of ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ may not boast super powers, but thanks to a solid premiere, the show itself boasts super ratings! (Sorry, that was awful.)
We knew we’d love Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. — we even included it on our list of the 10 best new fall shows — but we had no idea how much everyone else would love it! The numbers are in, and according to ABC, its new superhero-centric drama snagged 12.1 million total viewers, making it the best launch of any TV drama in four years.
In fact, the series had such a phenomenal premiere that ABC is re-airing the pilot Sept. 26 at 8 p.m., giving newbies another chance to get in on the action.
‘Marvel’s Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.’: A Brief Introduction
In case you’re not familiar with ABC’s new monster hit, here’s a description of how it begins, per the network:
In the premiere episode, ‘Pilot,’ it’s just after the battle of New York, and now that the existence of super heroes and aliens has become public knowledge, the world is trying to come to grips with this new reality. Agent Phil Coulson is back in action and has his eye on a mysterious group called The Rising Tide. In order to track this unseen, unknown enemy, he has assembled a small, highly select group of Agents from the worldwide law-enforcement organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division). The group’s first assignment together as a team finds them trying to track down an ordinary man who has gained extraordinary powers, powers that could have devastating consequences.
Yeah, it’s pretty much as cool as it sounds.
