After months of speculation the mag has confirmed that the iconic supermodel was chosen for the special anniversary January/February double issue, set for a December release. Not only is ‘Playboy’ turning 60, but Kate is turning 40 — could you think of a better way to celebrate?

Kate Moss certainly won’t forget her 40th birthday come January! While the supermodel is no stranger to stripping down and has appeared naked in a slew of high-fashion magazines and campaigns, she has never posed for Playboy — that is, until now!

Kate Moss ‘Playboy’ Cover Confirmed:

Playboy’s editorial director, Jimmy Jellinek, confirmed the news regarding Kate’s full-frontal moment to the LA Times. “This is a massive global brand,” he said. “You need a global icon in order to celebrate that — that was the impetus. You’re talking about the face of Burberry, the biggest supermodel in the world on the cover of Playboy. She’s the perfect partner for us to help launch the next 60 years.”

Shot by famed fashion photogs Marcus Pigott and Mert Atlas, the LA Times goes on to say that Kate really took on the role of a sex-kitten Playmate while getting glam in traditional attire for the mag. Her looks consisted of velveteen bunny ears, silk stockings, and a coy smile — but don’t expect to see her wearing much else!

Mr. Hugh Hefner himself also spoke to the paper about the decision to put Kate on the anniversary issue. “She’s a worldwide celebrity and iconic and crosses the boundaries from sexual imagery to upscale modeling,” he said. “It’s a natural for us.”

While this might be Kate’s first time on the magazine she certainly isn’t the first supermodel to strip down for the brand. In fact, she follows in the footsteps of Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer, and Stephanie Seymour, to name a few. Supermodel Elle MacPherson stripped down for Playboy in 1994 and recreated her iconic cover at 49 on Bazaar.

What do you think? Was Kate a good choice for the anniversary issue? Are you excited to see her on the magazine?
