Katie Couric has certainly developed a name for herself in the world of TV journalism — we’ve watched her journey from Today Show co-anchor to CBS Evening News solo-anchor to solo talk-show host — but could she be the next Barbara Walters?
That’s the word on the street, as Katie‘s ratings struggle and Barbara edges closer to her planned retirement. In fact, a source tells New York’s Daily News that Katie is being considered for Barbara’s spot on The View if her talk show isn’t renewed.
“The ABC development team has been working nonstop on new talk show pilots and are looking at high-profile names to replace [Barbara], hopefully by January,” the source tells the Daily News.
After Katie proved to be such a huge success on the Today Show for so many years, she’s reportedly a strong contender to replace Barbara, particularly because of her strong news background.
The View has been in the process of a major facelift during the past year, first with the exits of Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Joy Behar, and now with the arrival of new co-host Jenny McCarthy.
But with Barbara planning to retire in 2014, another major shift is in order, and rumor has it Katie is in the running for Barbara’s empty chair.
“Katie may ultimately replace Barbara when she retires,” the source says.
