Beauty in a world of ugly was the theme on the runway at Rebecca Taylor’s Spring 2014 show on Sept. 7 during New York Fashion Week.
Rebecca Talyor’s Spring 2014 collection was flirty and playful with proportions and textures. The combinations of crop tops, pleated trousers and punched denim gave each look an air of wistful beauty. A mix of funky, up-beat hip-hop from Cherry Neneh’s “Buffalo Stance” played from the speakers, adding a flair of fun to collection.
Rebecca Taylor Spring 2014:
The best thing about Rebecca’s designs is how wearable they are! Not only do they stun on the runway but they work great for a night on the town or even a day at the office. This season’s collection was packed with light pinks and pastel florals—much different from the dark neutral separates we’ve seen before.
There was plenty of mesh, lace, leather and even some railroad striped denim that really colored the collection!
We went backstage before the show to talk inspiration and celebrity favorites with Rebecca herself.
A movie about the French artist Pierre-Auguste Renior influenced the theme of her collection. “He said something to the effect of ‘there’s so much ugly in the world, why not paint something beautiful?’, said Rebecca. “The world can be a pretty nasty place, and I feel like if people can come here and watch a show and have fun and see something beautiful, then that’s something I can give.”
David Bowie—circa 1980, in a music video with the legendary Mick Jagger—persuaded her to go floral: “he has on these floral pants and floral shirt and I was just like, that’s as good as it gets,” said Rebecca with a laugh.
When asked about whom her top celebs to follow are she said, “I love Jennifer Lawrence and Blake Lively!” Greta Gerwig was a favorite of hers as well: “she’s just sort of light, doesn’t take it all too seriously.” A description that matches this season’s looks perfectly. It’s fate—these wearable girly-glam looks are perfect for all three ladies!
