Smokey eyes were the focus at the Spring/Summer Fashion Show on September 7. Despite the season, the nails were dark and the eye makeup was bold. We spoke to the artists backstage — read about the looks below.
Jill Stuart Runway — Dark Nails For Spring
Nails were done by Essie pro Julie Kandalec. She spoke EXCLUSIVELY to HollywoodLife.com:
“It’s two coats of After School Boy Blazer — it’s new for fall. Blue is popular for spring but you would never see navy on a spring runway.”
They used the same color on nails and toes and finished the look with Good To Go top coat for shine.
“It’s a slightly rounded nail. It’s a rock and roll inspiration — it really pulls the hair and makeup look together.” Julie told us.
Beachy Vacation Hair — How To
Hair was created by Odile GIlbert for Kerastate Paris:
“The hair is rock and roll hair,” she told HollywoodLife.com. “The part is not centered. We used Boucles D’Art mousse to get the roots up. We created two waves in the middle and left the roots and the ends straight. We then finalized with Powder Bluff dry shampoo. Don’t wash the hair — just shake it. The look is a lot of texture!”
Stylists used Laque Dentelle hairspray to set the final look.
Makeup by SEPHORA — Sexy, Smokey Eyes
Helen Phillips, SEPHORA pro artist, spoke on behalf of lead artist Aaron De May, to HollywoodLife.com:
“It’s all about keeping the imperfection. It’s not a polished look. We used spot concealer, not foundation. It’s a girl headed out the door. We used gloss for shine on the eyes for a smudgy look.
“This looks feels a little wrong for day — it’s about just going with what feels best. Kind of that ‘makeup from the night before’ look.”
To get the eye look, Aaron breaks it down. Use a creamy black eye pencil (they used Givenchy Magic Kajal Eye Pencil in Magic Black) and draw around the upper and lower lash line. Smudge into the crease. Add a dot of silver shadow (they used Marc Jacobs Beauty Style Eye-Con No. 7 Plush Shadow Palette in The Starlet 204) in the inner corners of the eyes to brighten and look awake.
To get the glossy lid look, dab a clear gloss like JOSIE MARAN Argan Infinity Cream Intensive Creamy Oil on the lid with your ring finger. Apply as many coats of mascara as you want. They used Sephora Collection Outrageous Volume Mascara in Black on the models.
