Austin Mahone, 17, and Ariana Grande, 20, owned the stage at their pre-show performances at the MTV Video Music Awards by driving their fans wild with songs off their respective albums, Junior Year and The Way.
Austin Mahone’s VMA Performance
Austin made fans go crazy on with his hot summer song, “What About Love?” He opened the pre-show on the red carpet with impressive acrobatics from himself and backup dancers, giving the performance a hip-hop edge. He was stylin’ in a black leather jumpsuit and definitely gave the crowd great energy with his dance moves! We knew he was ready from the tweet he posted four hours before he performed, stating “I’m ready this is the moment I’ve been waiting for.”
He’s also up for the Artist to Watch VMA, going against artists Iggy Azalea, Twenty One Pilots, The Weeknd and Zedd (featuring Foxes).
Ariana Grande Stuns At The VMA Pre-Show
Ariana sweetly opened her performance with “Baby I,” unaccompanied by music and sounding beautiful, hitting her high notes confidently. Her backup singers and dancers later joined her, spicing it up on the carpet with “The Way” in a sparkly purple mini-dress. She also tweeted an hour before her performance, saying “I want to dedicate a tweet to the photographers on the carpet at the VMAs, thank you for putting up with my nerves. I’m peeing my pants.”
Obviously both singers were excited for their moment, and we loved witnessing their first MTV VMAs performance! With Ariana’s high notes and Austin’s swag, it’s hard to choose who had the better pre-show performance!
What do YOU think, Hollywoodlifers? Did Austin or Ariana shine more during the VMAs?
