Meet the girl stealing Sam’s heart — and find out her surprising connection to Lea Michele!
To those Glee fans hoping to see Sam (Chord Overstreet) somehow rekindle his romance with Brittany (Heather Morris) in season five, we’ve got one thing to say to you: Keep dreaming! The former stripper is getting a sexy new love interest when the show returns, HollywoodLife.com‘s sister site Deadline is reporting — and she’s a little older than his previous lady friends.
Phoebe Strole has been cast as Penny Owen, a college sophomore with dreams of getting into nursing school. This is a little curious, considering Sam has yet to graduate from high school, but we’re sure the writers will find a logical way to bring the couple together.
Phoebe’s History With The ‘Glee’ Cast
This may be Phoebe’s first time on Glee, but it’s not her first time working with the show’s biggest star! Phoebe was a member of the original cast of 2006’s Spring Awakening, the coming-of-age Broadway musical that made Lea Michele a star.
Lea is actually the one who originally broke the news of Phoebe’s casting when she tweeted about her former Broadway castmate joining her Fox hit.
“Such amazing news that two of my very best friends are going to be on #Glee this year!” she tweeted Aug. 22. “@ddlovato & @PhoebeStrole! Thank you @MrRPMurphy!”
The other person mentioned in Lea’s tweet is Demi Lovato, who will also be joining Glee‘s fifth season as a recurring character. She’ll be playing Dani, a struggling NYC artist who befriends Rachel and Santana (Naya Rivera). According to reports, Dani will perform several duets with Adam Lambert, whose character will serve as a rival for Kurt (Chris Colfer).
So many stars in season five!
