OH no! Read on to find out why Sandra has decided to exit the show that made her a household name.
Sandra Oh is preparing to make her final rounds at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. The actress, who has played the brutally honest Dr. Cristina Yang for nine seasons on ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, has decided that the medical drama’s upcoming 10th season will be her last.
Sandra Oh’s Statement: ‘I Gave It My All’
Understandably, this announcement comes as a complete shock to fans of Sandra’s character. Here’s the complete statement she gave The Hollywood Reporter:
Creatively, I really feel like I gave it my all, and I feel ready to let her go. It’s such an interesting thing to play a character for so long and to actually get the sense that she wants to be let go as well. [Cristina] wants to be let go, and I am ready to let her go. We have to start the process, story-wise, for the Grey’s writers to think of why she’s going to go.
Yikes! I’m glad the writers will have enough time to give Cristina closure, but it still feels like a strange move. Could Sandra be the first of several original docs to fly the coop after season 10?
And more importantly, how will Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) survive without her “person?”
