Kate Middleton and Prince William debuted Prince George Alexander Louis on July 23 outside of St. Mary’s Hospital. The new mother wore a beautiful bespoke Jenny Packham polka dot dress similar to the one Princess Diana wore when she stood on the exact same steps at St. Mary’s 31 years ago while holding Prince William!
Just a day after giving birth, the Duchess of Cambridge left the hospital and showed off her adorable newborn! The happy parents smiled for cameras as they both wore matching powder blue attire. We’re fairly confident their outfit choices were anything less than a coincidence, seeing as William’s father wore a blue button-down on the day of his reveal as well!
Kate’s dress was crafted by the British designer just for the occasion and unfortunately won’t be available for purchase. A one-of-a-kind frock for a one-of-a-kind moment, how sweet!
We could never forget the green polka dot Catherine Walker dress Princess Diana wore in 1982 when she left the very same hospital 31 years ago! The dress featured a low collar and a loose bow tied at the neckline. She complimented the flowing frock with a pair of burgundy ballet flats that kept her looking comfy and chic.
We always seem to be praising Kate for being the ‘Royal Recycler,’ often wearing dresses to multiple occasions and even browsing the racks in stores like Topshop — and it turns out it’s a trait Princess Diana definitely would have admired! In fact, Prince William’s late mother first wore the polka dot dress two weeks earlier when she stepped out at a polo match in Angelesey during the late stages of her pregnancy.
Jenny Packham, creator of the dress, is one of Kate’s favorite designers and we’re really glad she decided to stay in her comfort zone right after giving birth! “It’s very emotional, it’s such a special time, I think any parent knows what this feeling feels like,” the Duchess of Cambridge gushed.
”Very special,” William added.
So special, in fact, that Kate and Will have already left the Kensington Palace and are reportedly spending some much needed time at her parent’s house! What’s better than some mother-approved advice?
We’re SO happy for the royal parents and we couldn’t be more excited to find out what they name the baby!
What do YOU think? Was Kate’s outfit a tribute to Diana? Are you a fan of her after-birth fashion? Sound off in the comments and don’t forget to VOTE!
