The Great Kate Wait is only partially over — now that a baby boy has been born, we anxiously await the announcement of the prince’s name! But just how long until the big reveal?
His Royal Highness the Prince was born on July 22 to excited first-time parents Kate Middleton and Prince William — and now anticipate the baby’s names. When will we know that the little prince has his name?
How Long Before The Royal Baby’s Name Is Revealed?
There is no set precedent for how much time must pass before the official announcement of a royal baby’s name. We can just take a look back at past name announcements to gauge how long of a wait we’re in for!
Prince William’s name was announced by parents Princess Diana and Prince Charles 7 days after his birth, but Charles’s own name was not announced until a month after his birth had passed. In contrast, Prince Harry‘s name was revealed as soon as he left the hospital.
So how long before Will and Kate let us in on the little prince’s name?
For reference, Kate and William took a good three weeks before finally deciding on what to name their dog (they settled on Lupo). They clearly take the job seriously — though in this case, they have had nine full months to prepare a powerful, princely name!
We imagine that the happy new parents are not stuck on the name or indecisive about what to call their son, but are rather giving themselves some time before announcing the names.
Palace Update: ‘No News On Names’ Yet
According to a Kensington Palace press release issued on July 23 at 11:55 a.m. local time, there was “no news on names” to report. However, the palace did report that Kate and baby alike are doing very well, and “we expect a departure either later this evening (but not before 6 p.m.) or tomorrow morning.” So exciting!
What do YOU think, HollyMoms? How long do you think we’ll have to wait before the baby’s name is revealed?
