Lea Michele’s Ultimatum To Cory Monteith Revealed: ‘Get Clean Or Else’

Despite his big break on Glee in 2009 and his fairytale romance with Lea, Cory’s troubled past always haunted him.

“He really struggled,” a source close to Cory told Us Weekly. “Essentially, he was a street kid. But he looked so angelic and he was playing this clean-cut guy.”

Cory was reluctant to share his dark side with Lea, but he was secretly spiraling out of control before he checked into a rehab facility at the end of March 2013.

“He was in a bad place,” the source said. “He would drink and use drugs — it just spiraled.”

Lea was blindsided when she found out about his relapse last spring, according to a source. She sought help from Cory’s friends, asking Glee creator Ryan Murphy to help her stage an intervention for Cory at Ryan’s home.

She told Cory, “Clean up or I’m out of here,” the source reveals.

After Cory checked into rehab on March 30, Lea showed her support for him, saying, “I love and support Cory and will stand by him through this. I am grateful and proud he made this decision.”

Cory Monteith Wanted To Change For Lea Michele

Cory was receptive to the intervention, and he desperately wanted to kick his addiction.

“He knew how lucky he was to be with Lea,” a Glee source said. “He didn’t take her for granted.”

After Cory checked out of rehab in April 2013, Lea obviously believed he was back on the right path. She even took a quick girls trip to Cabo San Lucas to celebrate a friend’s birthday right before Cory’s death. Meanwhile, Cory’s addiction caught up with him.

Despite his efforts to get clean, Cory started using cocaine and heroin shortly after completing rehab, a source said.

“He left too soon,” another source explains. “It was a lifelong problem, not something that was a quick fix.”

When the Glee star visited Vancouver, his former dealers preyed on him, and he was sadly sucked back into the world of drugs he had tried so desperately to leave behind.
