On March 29, wrestling legend Ric Flair‘s son, Reid Flair, was found dead in a hotel room in Charlotte, NC. Now almost three months after Reid’s tragic death, the cause of his death has been determined.
According to the official autopsy report, Reid died from an accidental overdose of heroin and other drugs. Traces of the muscle relaxant clonazepam and anti-anxiety medication Xanax were also found in Reid’s system.
Reid previously struggled with a heroin addiction and overdosed three times within two years, according to several reports.
Shortly before Reid’s death, he had been wrestling professionally in Japan, and was scheduled to go on tour with his father the following week. He tweeted the day before his death about the upcoming tour. “Two shows in Maryland this weekend with [my father] Good #wrestling and even better times ahead,” he wrote on Mar. 28.
After Reid’s tragic death, Ric Flair’s agent, Melinda Morris Zanoni, released a statement on behalf of the family:
We are heartbroken to confirm that Ric’s son, Reid, has passed away today on March 29, 2013 in Charlotte, NC. The investigation into the cause of death is ongoing. Reid was an incredible son, brother, friend, and professional wrestler. No words can describe the grief that Ric and his family are experiencing and they do request privacy during this devastating time.
