Spoiler alert: Stop reading if you haven’t seen the ‘Game Of Thrones’ season finale!
If you were hoping the Game Of Thrones season finale would end with a major reveal, you probably went to bed June 9 feeling pretty disappointed. There was a buzz-worthy reveal nestled in the super-sized episode, but if you weren’t paying close attention, you might have missed it. It was all about Theon’s (Alfie Allen) sadistic captor — and his no-longer-secret identity!
Theon Greyjoy’s Tormentor Revealed
“I had to keep it on the down low, big time,” Iwan Rheon, who was revealed to be playing Ramsay Snow — the bastard son of Roose Bolton — tells Entertainment Weekly. “It’s been quite funny, a lot of my mates were really into the show before [I was cast]. They’ve all come back and are like, ‘You horrible little bastard.'”
The most interesting part of the reveal, of course, is that it was completely invented by showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss! In George R. R. Martin‘s book series, there’s no mystery surrounding Ramsay’s identity. In fact, the torture scenes aren’t included in the books at all!
“It’s not very nice doing things like that, but Alfie is a great guy and a great actor,” Iwan tells the mag. “He gives it his 100 percent, and it’s great working with him. It’s very difficult for him when I get all the good stuff.”
What’s Next For Ramsay Snow?
Sadly, Iwan tells the mag he has “absolutely no idea” what’s in store for his bastard character in season four and beyond — but considering Ramsay already cut off Theon’s penis and mailed it to his family, what else could he possibly do?
Considering Yara (Gemma Whalen) is on her way to save her brother as we speak, perhaps a showdown in the dungeon is in the works! Only time, but certainly not Iwan, will tell.
