Two explosions occurred at the finish line of the Boston marathon on April 15. Many people have been injured, some having limbs blown off. There have been reports that 17 people are in critical condition, three are dead and hospitals have admitted 176 injured people.
There were two explosions, 12 seconds and 100 to 150 years apart from each other, near the Mandarin hotel in Boston, and 176 people have been injured. Three have been killed. At the final line of the Boston marathon, two explosions occurred during the race. Many victims have lost limbs, and two people have been reported dead. Copley Square in downtown Boston was the scene of the crime. There are currently no flights going in or out of Boston.
The Boston Police Department Spokesperson said there “some sort of incident at 671 Boylston Street”, which is the finish line for the race. There were twin explosions, 15 seconds apart.
“They were probably planned explosions, we are identifying this as a crime scene,” said a police spokesperson to WBVC. “They will gather a tremendous amount of information.”
What Caused The Explosions At The Race?
It is believed that the bombs had been placed in garbage cans, and 176 people have been reported injured by The Boston Globe. They are reporting that two have been killed.
Twin Blasts Leave Dozens With Injuries
The blasts happened at about 2:50 p.m. near the intersection of Boylston and Exeter streets. Store fronts have been blown out, and there have been reports of dozens of injuries.
“There were two bombs that exploded near the finish line in today’s Boston Marathon. We are working with law enforcement to understand what exactly has happened,” wrote The Boston Marathon on their Facebook page.
Sadly, doctors are performing a lot of amputations.
Witnesses Tweet Horrific Scene Of Boston Marathon Explosion
“I saw people’s legs blown off. Horrific. Two explosions. Runners were coming in and saw unspeakable horror,” tweeted NECN reporter Jackie Bruno.
“We were so close it was scary. Felt the force of the explosion. People were fleeing and victims were scattered.”
“My photog @JohnHammann and I are safe. But, we were very very close. Saw people on the ground with limbs missing. Awful.”
“just saw and felt a huge explosion @bostonmarathon @boston multiple deaths, legs blown off” tweeted John Hammann.
The victims are being taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, and there are up to 30 ambulances on the scene.
UPDATE: Boston Police think the attack was an act of terrorism. CNN called the tragedy a “well-planned event.”
CBS News reports that police are now looking at surveillance video showing someone carrying multiple backpacks into the area about 20 minutes before explosions.
Additionally, CNN reported that about 17,500 runners of the 27,000 total had already crossed the finish line before the explosion.
Three other devices have been found and dismantled.
