Brave cancer patient, Katelyn Norman, 14 made a bucket list that included so many normal teenage girl things, including having a date to prom, dancing to a slow dance and grabbing a kiss at the end of the magical night. In a thoughtful gesture, Katelyn’s generous friends helped make her dreams come true, and hosted a separate prom in her honor on March 26!
Katelyn’s friends gathered at a gorgeous venue, The Stables in LaFollette, Tenn., to have a prom in her honor March 26 — an event separate from her school’s prom. Many of her friends danced, ate, drank, and posed for pictures in front of Italian landscape backdrops, since it’s the teenager’s dream to visit Italy.
But during the ceremony, Katelyn had problems breathing — so she was airlifted from the prom back to the hospital. Luckily, her relatives, staff and friends came to join her in her hospital room.
After becoming stable, the young girl and her friends were able to continue with the festivities. Her date presented her with a prom queen sash and a beautiful yellow corsage.
“She contacted me and said prom must go on, that’s her, and you can’t help but feed off that energy, that life,” Sharon Shepard, a teacher at Katelyn’s school and prom coordinator, told WATE-TV. “Once you meet her, your life will never be the same, she has such an impact.”
The Campbell County mayor, William Bailey also attended the prom to announce that March 26 is formally named ‘Katelyn Norman Day’!
“We wanted to try to make this day, and this time in her life, special to her because she makes it special for people in Campbell County,” Mayor Bailey said.
How sweet! It’s so great that Katelyn was able to cross this landmark event of of her bucket list. What do YOU think of Katelyn’s friends bringing the prom to her HollywoodLifers?
