Rapper Tone Loc collapsed on stage during his concert in Des Moines, Iowa on Mar. 16. He apparently suffered a seizure, and his condition was critical enough that he was forced to cut the show early.
Three reporters for the Des Moines Register who were on the scene stated that Tone finished a song and then suddenly collapsed to the ground. After being attended to by multiple people for about five minutes, security asked fans to leave and the show was completely shut down.
Tone Loc, who is best known for his hits “Funky Cold Medina” and “Wild Thing,” reportedly suffered a seizure, though there’s no indication that the episode resulted in a trip to the hospital, and his condition has not been updated.
This is not a first time occurrence for Tone — not by a long shot. In 2009, he was rushed to a hospital in Florida after collapsing on stage. He collapsed again in Atlanta in 2011 and was taken to the hospital. Then in 2012, he collapsed on stage from what his manager said was heat exhaustion, and he also suffered a seizure while watching a comedy show.
So Tone obviously has a history with seizures, and at this point performing on stage doesn’t seem like the smartest thing for his health.
Tone Loc’s collapse and alleged seizure come just two days after fellow rapper Lil Wayne was hospitalized and in critical condition after suffering his own seizure. Wayne’s episode was so serious that many believed he would not survive. And then there’s Rick Ross, who suffered his third seizure in October 2012, causing him to cancel a concert in Guyana.
It seems that these scary, possibly fatal episodes are becoming a trend in the hip-hop world. We can only hope that whatever’s causing them is pinpointed and straightened out. These guys are too young and too talented.
