Want to see Veronica sleuth one last time? It’s time to put your money where your fandom is!

Veronica Mars fans — known within the community as “Marshmallows” — have yearned for a follow-up movie ever since the UPN/CW masterpiece was tragically canceled in 2007. And after years of rumors and false hope, mostly stemming from the cast, fans are finally going to see their dream become a reality. But wait, there’s a catch!

The Veronica Mars movie will only get off the ground if fans donate a whopping $2 million within 30 days! Creator Rob Thomas — no, not the dude from Matchbox Twenty — created a Kickstarter page where fans can lovingly dump their money, with fabulous prizes promised to those who go above and beyond.

Rob says pre-production will begin as soon as the Kickstarter goal is met — more than $250,000 was raised within the first few hours — and that the movie will be shot this summer, with a 2014 release.

Kristen Bell Promises A Kick-Ass Movie

The movie’s Kickstarter page also features a special message from star Kristen Bell, who assures the Marshmallows they won’t be disappointed if the movie comes to fruition.

“I am currently the happiest blonde in a hamster ball the world has ever seen,” she writes. “We have been waiting so long to make this movie dream a movie reality, and it’s because of YOUR commitment, YOUR persistence, that we finally have a chance. We just have one more step to go.”

“You have banded together like the sassy little honey badgers you are and made this possibility happen,” Kristen continues. “I promise if we hit our goal, we will make the sleuthiest, snarkiest, it’s-all-fun-and-games-‘til-one-of-you-gets-my-foot-up-your-ass movie we possibly can.”

Would the fans get a cut of the profits? Otherwise it’s a ridiculous thing to ask.

I don’t think it’s ridiculous. They’re asking, so it’s optional, and if you’re a die-hard fan of the show, it’s worth every penny.
