The ‘90210’ star will play an alien, opposite former ‘Friday Night Lights’ star Aimee Teegarden.

Every CWoud has a silver lining, and this one’s shining on Matt Lanter! Less than a week after The CW announced that 90210 will end its five-season run May‘s sister site Deadline is reporting that Matt has been cast on The CW pilot Oxygen.

Matt will play Roman, one of nine aliens secretly integrated into a suburban high school. (That’s right, they’re making him play a teenager again.) Friday Night Lights‘ Aimee Teegarden will play Emery, a human teenager who falls in love with Roman — as if you didn’t see that coming.

90210 fans should appreciate the irony of Matt playing an alien on Oxygen, as Liam played an alien hunter in the hilariously bad Corporate Invaders franchise. 90210 fans should also enjoy that Aimee appeared on the show’s first season as Rhonda, a nut job who feuded with Annie (Shenae Grimes) over Ethan (Dustin Milligan).

My Take On ‘Oxygen’

I’ll admit, I didn’t take too much notice of this potential series until I learned that Matt — who I hope and pray will return to his former longer/side-swept-haired glory — had been cast as the lead. But now that I’m giving it a thorough once-over, I’m actually pretty pumped.

The CW seems to be all about pairing human girls with supernatural brooders these days — see The Vampire Diaries and Beauty & The Beast — but it’s clearly a winning formula, as both series have solid followings.

HollywoodLifers, what do you think of Matt playing Emery in the Oxygen pilot? Do you even really care, as long as his contract requires copious amounts of shirtless-ness? Drop a comment with your thoughts on Oxygen below:

It sounds like the book obsidian by Jennifer armentrout. If Matt’s in it though, I’ll definitely watch it.

Does sound EXACTLY like Obsidian! Matt’s cute and all but if he’s playing Daemon then we need to know that!

I like the idea that u tryin to do a form of the Roswell show because it was great . U need to make sure though that is does have sum of the similarities like the love they main characters shared that made the show. But I think u need to sum how bring the original people in this sumhow even if its just now and again Wud be great ifs few were permanent like teachers for the younger one or sumthing cause us probably get a lot if the older generation to watch too if they had formal faces especially the hot grown up men that we no now . Just a suggestion , cab help the rating if u work it for all generations don’t u think. Go max evens(Jason behr) Wud luv to see him on oxygen . Wud to luv to see them all from Roswell to appear .

Yeah, my thought is they already did this concept 10 years ago. Shades of Roswell, people.
