Michael Marin Rivera, 22, son of recently deceased Mexican-American singer Jenni Rivera has had an unfortunate run-in with the law.
On the night of Feb. 21, Michael, whose legal name is Trinidad Angelo Marin, was taken in by the Miami police department for minor acts of vandalism. He has been charged with criminal mischief, and his bail has been set at $1,000. Additionally, the damage Michael caused has been estimated to be worth from $200 to $1,000.
It is not his first run-in with the law; in 2010 he was arrested on charges of sexual molestation, though was never convicted for any crime. The Rivera family was in Miami for the Premio Lo Nuestro awards, during which Jenni won five awards, including Pop Album of the Year.
Jenni of course, was tragically killed on Dec. 9 when the Learjet she was on board crashed in Nuevo Leon, Mexico. Her publicist, lawyer and makeup artists also died in the crash. Unfortunately, it was reported that the horrible plane crash could have been avoided — the traveling conditions were unsafe, the pilot was reportedly overworked, and the plane had a history of crashing.
Taken from the world far too early, Jenni had sold over 20 million albums worldwide, was named one of People En Espanol’s 25 most powerful women, was a star of one reality show, and was signed on to star in another on ABC.
The Rivera family is clearing still coping, and we can only hope that Michael’s most recent brush with the law is just a temporary grief-stricken phase.
