The final pieces of the Girl Meets World puzzle are falling into place! Disney Channel has cast Sabrina Carpenter as Maya, the proverbial devil on the shoulder of Riley Matthews (Rowan Blanchard), reports HollywoodLife.com‘s sister site TVLine.
Sabrina and Rowan join Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel, who will be reprising the roles of Cory Matthews and Topanga Lawrence-Matthews from the original Boy Meets World series.
After launching her acting career with a guest spot on Disney Channel’s Austin & Ally in 2011, Rowan went on to do several more TV shows and movies. She’ll also appear on the upcoming Fox comedy The Goodwin Games as the younger version of Becki Newton‘s character, Chloe.
This leaves only one major part to be cast: Riley’s 14-year-old brother, Eliot! (Note: We’re all choosing to ignore the obvious oversight with his age. If Boy Meets World ended in May 2000, and Topanga wasn’t even pregnant, how could they now have a 14-year-old son? But I digress…)
And we should be hearing about Eliot any day now, considering Danielle recently revealed that the pilot is being filmed in early February.
Because a majority of the people excited for Girl Meets World were originally viewers of Boy Meets World, everybody wants to know which familiar faces could be popping up on the new series. Rider Strong, who played Cory’s bad-boy best friend Shawn Hunter, recently offered up his thoughts on a potential return:
“At this point, I have no official involvement,” Rider wrote on his official website. “There might be a chance to see some of the BMW cast in a guest spot, and I think it would be nice to find out where our characters have been all these years. But Girl Meets World will be, and I think it should be, it’s own show. It will be about Cory and Topanga, their daughter, and a new set of characters … And I, for one, can’t wait to see it evolve.”
