Plus, the star shares the special talent he’s known for on set!
President Gilchrist (Bill Pullman) may run the White House on 1600 Penn, but anyone who’s seen the new hit NBC sitcom knows the real brains of the operation can be found in his son Xander! HollywoodLife.com caught up with Benjamin Stockham, who plays the youngest member of the Gilchrist clan, for a behind-the-scenes look at what life is really like at 1600 Penn.
Congrats on your first big show! Have you enjoyed yourself so far?
“All the people are so nice. Sometimes you go onto sets where people aren’t super nice, but I got really lucky.”
It must be a fun set. Who makes you laugh the most?
“Definitely Josh Gad. Even when we’re not shooting, he’s just so funny.”
In what ways are you similar to Xander?
“We look a lot the same. I have blue eyes, and so does he. But that’s about it.”
And how are you different, besides not being the son of the president?
“He wears black a lot. I wear black sometimes, but not every day.”
Are you allowed to watch the show, or just your parts?
“It’s a family friendly show, it’s not super adult. So yeah, I’m allowed to watch it. … We always do these get-togethers for each episode, so [my friends] get to watch it.”
When you’re not filming, what do you do to pass the time?
“Usually school. … My favorite subject is probably art. [Jenna Elfman made special note of Benjamin’s art skills during the 2013 TCAs.]”
So if you weren’t acting, would you be doing art?
“I’d also like to be an animator for a show, or something.”
