Jodie shocked everyone by coming out during her Golden Globes speech on Jan. 13 and it was a beautiful. We think this was the perfect time and place for her to announce this and we want to know what you think — Watch Managing Editor Bill and Senior Reporter Chloe’s video breakdown!

Jodie Foster, 50, is one of the most influential Hollywood actresses and now she has just inspired even more people. Jodie accepted the Cecil B. DeMille award on Jan. 13 and when she took to the stage to give her speech, she told the millions of viewers watching and the celebs in the audience that yes, she is a lesbian. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house and we were crying along with her!

Jodie Foster’s Emotional Speech At Golden Globes

“A big coming out speech tonight,” she said. “I already did my coming out about a thousand years ago in the stone age. Back in the days when a fragile young girl would open up to trusted friends and family and co-workers and then gradually proudly to everyone who knew her, to everyone she actually met. But now apparently every celebrity is expected to expose the details of their private life with a press conference, a fragrance and a reality show.”

“I’m sorry, that’s just not me and it never will be. But please support me because my reality show would be so boring. I would have to make out with Marion Cotillard, spank Daniel Craig’s bottom just to stay on the air. But seriously, if you had been a public figure since the time you were a toddler. If you had to fight for a life that felt real and honest and normal, then maybe then too you’d value privacy about all else.”

“Someday in the future, people will look back and remember how beautiful it once was. I have given everything up there since the time that I was three years old and that’s a reality show enough, don’t you think. Love people and stay beside them. There is no way I could stand here tonight without acknowledging one of the greatest loves of my life. My ex-partner in love but righteous soul sister in life, my most beloved BFF of 20 years, Cydney Bernard. I am so proud of our modern family.”

Jodie Has Never Before Spoken About Being A Lesbian

It has been speculated for years that she is a lesbian but she has never admitted it. The actress was with her long-time film producer Cydney Bernard but the two split in 2008. During Jodie’s speech, she talked about Cydney, who was in the audience but then went on to say that she is single. Even though they aren’t together, they are continuing to co-parent their two beautiful sons, Charles and Kit. She also said she and Cydney are best friends.

We are so proud of Jodie and we think what she did was so inspring. We are team Jodie and will continue to support her like we always have! We love Jodie Foster!
