New documents released by the Kansas City Police Dept. recount the last conversation Jovan had with his mentors before killing himself. Read on for more details.
Kansas City Chiefs head coach Romeo Crennel pleaded with NFL linebacker Jovan Belcher to not kill himself, saying “You’re taking the easy way out.” Those words fell on deaf ears, as the athlete pulled the trigger, shooting himself in the head.
After fatally shooting his girlfriend, and the mother of his baby daughter, Kasandra Perkins, at their home on Dec. 1, the troubled athlete drove to his team’s facility where he exchanged words with the Kansas Chiefs GM Scott Pioli in the parking lot.
According to TMZ, Jovan told Pioli, “I’m sorry Scott, I’ve done a bad thing to my girlfriend already. I want to talk with Gibbs and Romeo.”
He went on to say, “You know that I’ve been having some major problems at home and with my girlfriend. I need help! I wasn’t able to get enough help. I appreciate everything you all have done for me with trying to help…but it wasn’t enough. I have hurt my girl already and I can’t go back now.”
Jovan’s head coach Romeo Crennel then arrived on the scene and pleaded with him to put the gun down, saying “You’re taking the easy way out.”
Romeo told police that Jovan did lower the gun, but only to chamber the round. He then blessed himself by making a sign of the cross over his chest and then shot himself in the head with one fatal gunshot.
It’s still unclear as to what Jovan’s motive was — there were reports that the couple had been arguing over money issues and then more recently HollywoodLife.com learned that the identity of their child’s real daddy was in question.
Their daughter, Zoey is now living with Jovan’s mother Cheryl at her Long Island home, where Jovan grew up.
How sad. Our prayers go out to all of those involved, especially the baby girl.
