‘The Impossible’ is a heart-wrenching tale of one family’s survival in the most impossible conditions.
Bring your tissues if you go see The Impossible because you will cry! But it will be worth it, because it is a truly amazing movie. Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor star in this true story about a family who were vacationing in Thailand when the 2004 tsunami hit. Against all odds, they survived to tell the tale. HollywoodLife.com were invited to the Calvin Klein Collection presents special screening of Summit Entertainment’s The Impossible in New York on Dec. 12.
Five Reasons To See This Movie:
#1 Naomi Watts
While Ewan does a fantastic job playing the father of a family who were devastated by the tsunami, it is Naomi who steals the show. To be fair, she does get more screen time playing Maria Bennet, the matriarch of the Bennet family. She is severely injured when the tsunami hits the tropical resort she and her family are staying in. Yet, throughout her horrific ordeal, she succeeds in bringing her eldest son to safety.
#2 The history of the story
The story is based on a true family’s ordeal, and Naomi and Ewan play the parents of three young sons who are playing by their hotel pool when the deadly wave hit. While Maria and the eldest son Lucas battle the waves, Henry [Ewan] and the younger sons are fighting their own battle to survive. It is a harrowing and realistic portrayal of what is one of the world’s most horrendous tragedies.
#3 It’s true
It is a totally true story of a real Spanish family, who beat all odds when all five members escaped the waves with their lives intact. You will find yourselves rooting for their survival throughout the film, and all the while it gives you a greater perspective of how awful and terrifying the event must have been. When you see Maria and her son being churned violently in water that is full of cars, debris, branches and all sorts of other deadly weapons, you wonder how on earth they got out alive.
#4 It’s emotional
It is so emotional! This film is totally bittersweet, as you are filled with joy when you see the family reunited, after they believed that the other family members were dead. However, it is also so sad, as there are dramatic renditions of people frantically searching for their families, and you know that their tale won’t end like the Bennet’s. And there is also the horrifying images of those who didn’t survive the tragedy.
#5 It’s inspiring
It really is an inspiring tale of survival. Against all the odds, the Bennet family make it home to tell the tale of their struggle through the tsunami. It really will make you stop taking things for granted.
Everyone should go see this movie!
