Will Liberty Ross give her marriage a second chance? Should she? Can a cheater ever change or is the situation so hopeless that she might as well kick Rupert Sanders out the door for good. Relationship expert Diana Falzone gives her advice.
There’s tremendous and ongoing speculation about how long the affair between the 22-year-old actress and SWATH director lasted, but the one of the key questions is – should Liberty stay with her husband?
Betrayal in a marriage is earth shattering. The cheating spouse has broken their sacred wedding vow promising to forsake all others and has belittled their true physical intimacy; not to mention, has depleted their foundation of trust.
There is no easy way to recover from infidelity, yet if the cheater stepped outside of the marriage once and only once, it is possible for there to be reconciliation. However, Rupert has to be genuinely remorseful about his destructive behavior and must be willing to work via couples counseling to repair his broken union. If he has a laissez-faire attitude about his cheating ways, Liberty would be better off consulting a divorce lawyer than a couples’ therapist.
Even though Liberty may be broken-hearted she is nevertheless in the power position in the relationship right now. She can decide whether she deems her husband worthy of forgiveness or not.
Hopefully Rupert’s regret is genuine and that he values his wife and family so much that he is willing to do all that it takes to repair the damage that he has done to his marriage. Then Liberty will have a far easier decision.
