With only a few episodes left until Teen Wolf‘s second season finale, I figured we were in store for a few twists this week — but nothing could have prepared me for the sexy pretzel that was the July 30 episode, “Fury.” By the end of the mind-blowing hour, Scott’s (Tyler Posey) secret was exposed, a fan-favorite character was dead, and the Kanima found itself a new master. (Yeah, it was that intense.)
For starters, we got an answer to pretty much every question we could have possibly had about Matt (Stephen Lunsford), right down to which Beacon Hills couple he ships. (As it turns out, he’s a big ol’ “Sterek” fan!) We learned that Isaac’s brother threw Matt into the pool during a party for the swim team in 2006, an event that left him totally warped — both physically and mentally. After lending Jackson (Colton Haynes) his video camera the night of his transformation, Matt unwillingly bonded with the Kanima, and suddenly everyone he took a picture of ended up as the Kanima’s next victim.
Yada yada yada… Matt showed up to the police station with a gun and held Scott, Stiles (Dylan O’Brien), Mr. Stiles and (eventually) Mrs. Scott hostage. Though Derek (Tyler Hoechlin) showed up to help, Jackson — and his fast-acting Kanima paralysis toxin — was hot on his trail. We did, however, get an insanely beautiful shot of Derek in all his shirtless glory before he went down for the count. So that was pretty great.
Allison (Crystal Reed) also got in touch with her inner Buffy this week, as gramps convinced her to seek revenge against Derek for her mother’s death. And because this is Teen Wolf, “revenge” meant launching an all-out assault on the police station, complete with automatic machine guns — and, of course, Allison’s trusty crossbow. While I very much enjoyed the thrilling slow-motion attack scene, Allison was a damn fool to think she even stood a chance against the Kanima alone. Girl almost got herself killed.
After a whole lot of scuffling — including a major fight between Derek, Scott and the Kanima, during which Scott’s mom found out he’s a wolf! — Grandpa Argent got a hold of Matt and dragged him out back to the ol’ pond. Within minutes, Matt was dead in the water (R.I.P., beautiful human) and gramps officially took over as the Kanima’s new master. All the while, Peter (Ian Bohen) watched from a distance with a surprising look of horror. Could he be… good?
How did you feel about this week’s episode? Were you kind of sad to see Matt die? How do you think Scott’s mom will adjust to having a wolf for a son? And what’s the real deal with Peter? Drop me a comment with your theories and predictions below!
