Willow Smith I Am Me

After wildly whipping her hair back and forth in her video debut, Willow dials it (way) down in her vulnerable new ballad, ‘I Am Me’. Watch the video below!

Known just as much for her daring red carpet fashion and for her (fake) tongue ring, Willow Smith‘s new video is seemingly a direct response to those who criticize her personal style.

With only a keyboard and some casually baggy clothes, the daughter of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith impresses with her vocal chops in her special effects-free shot set in New York City.

She sings: “Days pass, I’m tryin’ to find out who I really am. I’ve been lookin’. People don’t like the way I dress or where I’m at.”

And with her hook, she croons: “I’m me and that’s all I can be. Here’s my vulnerability. I’m free and you can’t stop me. I’m me and that’s all I can be.”

Did we mention that she’s only 11?

Willow — who looks SO much like a young Will — debuted her fourth music video at the 2012 BET Awards.

Hmmmmm. Really? An 11 year old rich girl with celebrity parents singing in a publicly released video that our validation is not important to her? Riiiiiiiight. Here’s how I show that “your validation is not important to me”: I don’t make a video about it.

Brene, I totally agree. I don’t have any kids yet, but this video made me rethink being a little more tolerate about letting future kids color their hair. It’s not a sign of disrespect or anything; just experimentation and learning who u r.
