Even when your whole life is crashing around you, you’re supposed to be able to rely on your family — unless, of course, you’re a Hastings, which Spencer (Troian Bellisario) learned the hard way on the June 19 episode of Pretty Little Liars. Big sis Melissa (Torrey DeVitto) finally returned to Rosewood this week, and like always, she brought along a nasty little secret.
She’d been faking her pregnancy for months! The hospital where she claimed to have been treated during her miscarriage had no records of her visit, and worse yet, their mom was in on the secret. We’re not sure exactly how long Melissa pretended to be with child, but when we do, I have “A” feeling she’ll look a whole lot more suspicious.
But that wasn’t the only Hastings family bombshell this week. Spencer’s mom announced she’ll be defending Garrett (Yani Gellman) in his upcoming murder trial, a decision that didn’t sit too well with Queen Spencer. Melissa claimed she was “indifferent” on the matter, so now I’m dying to know what happened between her and her badge-toting boy toy.
Meanwhile, the girls decided to finally call Jenna (Tammin Sursok) out for having working eyes, but she had a little revelation of her own planned: She found Emily (Shay Mitchell) standing in the middle of the road and drove her home the night Alison’s (Sasha Pieterse) body went missing. So as a “thank you,” though I’m still not really sure why, the girls agreed to keep her secret.
In other news, Ella (Holly Marie Combs) and Ezra (Ian Harding) found new common ground this week: They’re both horrifically irresponsible teachers! She came clean to him about doctoring Emily’s exam, but instead of turning her into the principal, he saved her ass by taking full responsibility. Speaking of ass, am I the only one who noticed a little sexual tension between those two? Watch out, Aria (Lucy Hale)!
Hanna’s (Ashley Benson) visits to Mona (Janel Parrish) continued to drive a wedge between her and Caleb (Tyler Blackburn), so much so that he paid a solo visit to the little whack job, telling her to back off. That’s when she went straight-up bananas and screamed until he fled in fear. That Mona, what a gem.
And then there’s Lucas (Brendan Robinson). In addition to growing a beard and setting garbage-can fires — homeless much? — the little creepster has also been secretly visiting “Madhouse Mona.” He said it’s better for “everyone” if Mona stays crazy, but what do you think he meant by that? I’m more convinced he’s a member of the “A” Team than ever.
OK, we’ve got lots of new mysteries to crack here: How long do you think Melissa was faking her pregnancy, if she was ever pregnant at all? Whose body was in the freezer at the end of the episode? And, call me crazy, but do you think Ella and Ezra could have something special? Drop me a comment with your best thoughts and theories!
