This week we went home to see how the designer’s are prepping for the final challenge — but unfortunately, one contestant doesn’t make it to the final competition — or do they?
Before the designer’s can show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in NYC, Tim Gunn awkwardly but adoringly treks out to the hometown of each remaining contestant, where he tracks their progress and meets their family and friends. These scenes always remind me of what it’s like when you’re younger and you run into your grade school teacher on the sidewalk or in the supermarket, when you’re both dressed down and you’re with your mom — it doesn’t always seem natural!
Tim’s first stop was Maryland, where he seemed to approve of Kimberly’s bright collection, and exclaiming it was, “so you.” Next, Tim packs his bags and travels all the way to Trinidad, where it seems like the slow pace of island life might seriously hurt Anya’s chances. Her inspiration board, (which looks more like the generic beach backdrop of a Corona commercial), didn’t seem all that moving.
After his getaway, Tim’s back in NYC to meet with both Josh and Viktor. Tim really wants Viktor to knock the judge’s “EFFING” socks off and is a fan of his white leather jacket. Next, we meet Viktor’s boyfriend, who is well-mannered and disarming — not only was it a surprise, but it also definitely brings out a redeeming quality in Viktor!
Last, (but certainly not least), Tim makes his way to Josh’s, where they dine with Josh’s cute and stylish sister before trekking out to his apartment in Queens, where Josh shows Tim his fabrics — and unfortunately, Tim isn’t a fan!
After the visits, the designer’s come together for the first time, where air-kissing and attitudes come out almost instantly before they take to the runway.
The judges were super pleased with Josh’s creations, but unfortunately Kimberly’s styling didn’t meet the same praise. As predicted by Tim, Viktor’s white leather jacket was a hit — Heidi was like a kid in a candy store! She couldn’t even resist the urge to try it on — and I have to admit, I’m kinda jealous! While Anya always seems to pull it off in the eleventh hour, this wasn’t the case.
While there was some work to be done and some flaws in some of the designs, (especially Anya’s), the judges decide all four contestants will move on! Check back next week as the remaining contestants had to Lincoln Center.
